A series of 19 earthquakes struck along the California-Nevada border starting just before 4 p.m. Thursday, most of which struck with a magnitude of about 3.0. The largest reported earthquake struck with a magnitude of 5.9, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
People reported feeling the quakes as far west as San Francisco and as far south as San Jose.
The USGS had earlier reported an earthquake near Stockton, but that appears to be a false reading triggered by the quakes just south of Lake Tahoe.
