Despite the fact that mainstream game developers have yet to fully embrace the genre, I believe the technological breakthroughs of the seventh generation of video game consoles (namely the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) heralded the dawn of the narrative-driven game age. Unlike previous generations, where games relied on a balance of narrative and gameplay (with a heavy emphasis on the latter) to hold consumers’ attention, the proper idea allowed the storey and aesthetics to do the heavy lifting.
