Across the generations, games have been striving to deliver believable weather effects. While many have tried, the true standouts have, traditionally, been few and far between. Snow has always been particularly tricky. Unlike rain, it accumulates on the ground (as well as surrounding objects). It also can come in a million different forms: from appearing almost mist-like, to dropping in large snowflakes, to complete blizzards.
Still, game developers have risen to the challenge. Technological advances are now allowing them to create truly impressive wintry landscapes filled with fantastic examples of believable snow. There are also a few games that managed to capture the essence of snow with more limited means. Either way, these wintry wonders deserve recognition for their accomplishments.
