Gearbox has launched the Borderlands 3 Cross-Play functionality for its much-loved loot-shooter, but sadly, those playing on PS5 and PS4 will not be able to team up with gamers on PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
The much-requested feature is now available as part of the latest Borderlands 3 update, and is opt-in with players required to make a Cross-Play display to get in on the action. This will allow them to use Gearbox’s Shift matchmaking to compete with players on other formats.
As previously reported, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford revealed that he was “required” to remove PS5 and PS4 support for Cross-Play, much to the annoyance of Sony console owners.
Sony has kept mum on the subject, but it’s worth remembering the format holder apparently requires compensation for revenue lost during Cross-Play — the only one out of the Big Three to do so. Hopefully Sony will buck up…
