Daley Thompson was the first sportsman to truly become a star in the world of video games. The two-time Olympic gold medal winning decathlete released ‘Daley Thompson’s Decathlete’ in 1984 on the Spectrum 48K gaming system.
Now, four decades on, he has reflected on that experience and on his career as a whole.
“I’ll tell you what, it’s funny,” Thompson said during a media call organised with Laureus.
“The day I was approached to participate in that video game, which went on to become the best-selling video game in 1984, I had no idea what they were talking about.
“It was one of the first ones to come out of that profile. But, nowadays, not a day goes by when I’m not reminded by someone that they smacked the top of a Comodoro 64 because of that game.”
