It still feels like zombie games are a dime a dozen, but finding one that’s high-quality and doesn’t feel like a retread of old ground is rare. After a lot of delays the long-anticipated “Dying Light 2” is finally out and while it has issues the core gameplay is vastly improved and provides a fun experience.
Set several years after the ending of the first game this sequel takes place in a world that has largely been consumed by another zombie plague. You play as Aiden Caldwell, a man who was part of secret pharmaceutical trials as a boy and now lives as a roaming mercenary called a pilgrim. Aiden is on a quest to find his long-lost sister, Mia, and he finds himself in what is called “The City” after being infected by a zombie. The story starts off with a good amount of intrigue, but there’s a lack of interesting characters in the first few hours.
