Baker football coach Steve Normand can’t help but be a little afraid of what might be next.
He made his annual appearance at Mobile County Media Day on Friday at Ladd-Peebles, but he did so without any of his players.
The situation? You guessed it. COVID-19.
“Wednesday afternoon after practice we had a COVID situation, so we had to have a 10-day quarantine,” he said. “The whole team is on quarantine. We found out Wednesday night about 10 o’clock, right before we were about to leave for a 7-on-7 in Daphne on Thursday. Everything has been put on hold for us. It’s scary.”
Better now than later.
Normand said his team can return on July 26. Next week is a dead week for high school teams for All-Star Sports Week. Only conditioning is allowed. Fall practice starts Aug. 2. Still, Normand said it’s frustrating and daunting as teams get ready for another season.
