MARTINSBURG — When first-year Martinsburg coach Britt Sherman gathered his team on the turf Saturday afternoon for nothing more than a discussion — rather than a game at Cobourn Field at Walker Stadium — he tried to spin the situation the best he could.
It wasn’t easy for his players to drink up the half-full glass he was serving.
He described his players as “upset, confused and angry” during the 1 p.m. meeting.
Any defense of their four straight championships had become null and void because of the state’s COVID-19 map that, with Berkeley County being in red, said the Bulldogs couldn’t play their scheduled Class AAA quarterfinal against Bridgeport.
The map turned red on Berkeley County on Friday and stayed their Saturday.
