High school girls basketball: Carbon, Mountain Ridge win region games

Mountain Ridge 44, Riverton 43

After shedding its last 2 games, Mountain Ridge attracted close to a 3rd successive loss, tracking Riverton 36-34 entering into the 4th quarter. Instead, the Sentinels gathered as well as got along to declare their 3rd win in Region 3. Freshman Kya Newton led all markers as she paced Mountain Ridge with 16 factors, consisting of 2 3-pointers. Senior Hannah Shinall led Riverton with 12 factors.

“It was a hard fought battle by both teams. Riverton is a good basketball program and we knew we had our work cut out for us. I thought we did a good job executing on the defensive end and hit some big shots in key moments down the stretch. Proud of the girls and how hard they played,” Mountain Ridge instructor Kenzie Newton stated.
