On Friday, the Karnataka government had tabled a bill in the legislative assembly that seeks to ban online gambling. According to Economic Times, the Karnataka Assembly has passed the bill via voice vote that bans online “games of chance.”
The bill amends the Karnataka Police Act, 1963 and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that the proposed law will not affect online games that comply with “games of skill” features. The new law will deal with abettors and operators who run games of chance disguised as games of skill. Games that involve any risk of players losing real-world money will also invite action under the law. The law will cover all online games on smartphones, tablets, and computers.
