SPRINGFIELD — The Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted Tuesday to accept MGM Springfield’s application for an on-site sportsbook even though the gambling giant submitted it 48 hours after the Nov. 21 deadline.
MGM had its fee in by the Monday deadline but — burdened with a separate application process for its BetMGM online sportsbook and a hurry-up application process designed to get sportsbooks approved in January — only submitted the paperwork on Wednesday, Nov. 23, said Augustine Kim, MGM Resorts International vice president and legal counsel.
“That is completely my fault,” Kim said.
He asked the regulator’s indulgence Tuesday at the commission’s meeting held via video.
Commission Chairwoman Cathy Judd-Stein said delays were anticipated and she called for empathy.
“We have all been there,” Judd-Stein said.
